Environmental Sustainability and Peace
Pollinators are essential to our daily life. Around the world, an estimated 80 percent of all flowering plant species and over one-third of our food is dependent upon or benefited by animal pollinators. Bees, birds, butterflies, beetles, bats, ladybugs and other insects, small mammals, and even reptiles that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. They also sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce. However, many of these pollinator species are in decline, threatening the productivity of both global food production and ecological communities.
